Cloud Systems Administrator

Endeavour has an exciting opportunity for a Cloud Systems Administrator to join an Energy industry sector client based in Leicestershire, initially for a 3 months contract, with renewals after that period.

The role is 100% remote outside IR35  – working in UK

Our client is looking for a Cloud Systems Administrator to plan for, deploy, and administer their cloud-based infrastructure. Together with their IT department, renewable energy engineers, and other stakeholders, you will be responsible for the deployment, monitoring, and optimisation of their cloud-based systems, as well as the protection and adherence of those systems.

Your role:

  • Create and deploy cloud-based solutions to sustain solar, wind, and hydroelectric power plants, making sure they run smoothly and effectively.
  • Conceive, develop, and implement cloud-based data collecting and analysis systems for monitoring and optimising the performance of renewable energy assets, such as energy output, weather, and equipment health, in real time.
  • Integrate cloud-based tools and services, such as remote monitoring and control of renewable energy assets, predictive maintenance, and energy forecasting, into renewable energy systems in collaboration with renewable energy engineers.
  • Implementing best practices for data protection, access control, and regulatory compliance, such GDPR, NERC CIP, will help us keep our renewable energy systems running smoothly and securely in the cloud.
  • Using diagnostic tools and monitoring data, locate and fix problems with cloud-based renewable energy systems including slowdowns in performance or corrupted data.
  • Incorporate regular backups, replication, and testing of disaster recovery strategies into our cloud-based renewable energy systems.
  • Increase the efficiency and efficacy of our renewable energy systems by implementing the newest trends and technology in cloud computing, renewable energy, and related disciplines and provide recommendations for adopting new technologies and best practices.

Required skills and experience:

  • Proficiency in cloud platforms, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including cloud infrastructure management, virtualization, networking, and storage.
  • Experience with cloud-based data collection and analysis tools, such as IoT platforms, data lakes, and big data analytics frameworks, for monitoring and optimizing renewable energy systems.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash, for automating cloud operations, system configuration, and deployment processes.
  • Knowledge of cloud security best practices, such as identity and access management (IAM), encryption, auditing, and compliance, and experience in implementing security measures for cloud-based systems.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, such as CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (e.g., Git), and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible), for managing cloud-based infrastructure and applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts, technologies, and best practices
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Systems Engineer / London

Excellent permanent opportunity for an experienced, Security Cleared Systems Engineer to be responsible for provisioning and maintaining infrastructure running both on-premises and in the cloud. This infrastructure is delivered by the Infrastructure Engineering department as part of the platforms consumed by the Product Development group.

The ideal candidate will have been designing and deploying infrastructure (x86) for several years, having a good understanding of the trade-offs involved and attributes needed for stable operations, and will have experience with at least one of the major virtualization vendors.

The candidate will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary platform team which builds the platform layer and supporting infrastructure for development teams to consume in a self-service manner.

Technical capability, adaptability to business needs, staying focused on delivering results, and relishing a challenge are all essential to the success of this role.

Requirements:

  • Experienced, hands-on infrastructure architect, likely to be from an infrastructure design and/or system administration background
  • Administration experience of one or more of the major virtualization providers (preferably Nutanix, but may include VMware/vSAN, KVM)
  • HCI experience, especially regarding storage
  • Linux (preferably RHEL) configuration, patching and management
  • Candidate with a Linux/Unix background
  • UK security clearance (current or lapsed)

              

Any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Networking including VLANs, routing, WANs
  • Familiar with modern monitoring and logging tools (Splunk, Prometheus, etc), an understanding of SIEM, and an interest in IT security more generally
  • Security appliances such as those by Fortinet, PaloAlto or Check Point
  • Familiarity with modern infrastructure provisioning tooling, such as Terraform
  • Public cloud provisioning, especially Azure Resource Manager
  • Familiarity, or more, of Kubernetes (or one of the managed K8s offerings, such as OpenShift) run ton the infrastructure and it interacts with, for example, the Nutanix CSI
  • Product evaluation and vendor selection, including running Proofs of Concept/Value to compare

  • Professional approach when dealing with internal and external customers, including clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.

The successful Solution/Infrastructure Architect will be responsible for defining and documenting IT business solutions that meets program/project scope business requirements and that are aligned with published enterprise architecture. Act as technical lead during IT project life cycle to ensure that implemented changes support the overall integrity, robustness and efficiency of the IT business solutions. Define and document IT roadmap supporting product roadmap and business strategy that ensures cost effectiveness through standardization, reusability and optimization.

Your main responsibilities will include the following tasks:

  • Define, design and document IT business solutions, delivering Business Solution Architecture (BSA) document, corresponding UML artefacts (i.e. Activity Diagrams, Sequence Diagrams, Use Cases) and Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) in support of documenting the program/project scoped IT business solution.
  • Ensure that the solution architecture is compliant and aligned to the published Enterprise Architecture blueprints and product, technology and infrastructure roadmaps. Direct a design change control to ensure that all changes are considered in relation to the end-to-end design baseline. Ensure that the solution is aligned to defined scope but also positioned for future requirements.
  • Review and approve design artefacts for the IT business solution (i.e. Functional Designs, Technical Designs, Interface Specifications, Data Mappings etc.), liaising with cross functional teams to achieve high quality designs.
  • Co-operate with the Enterprise Architects on definition of the E2E architecture to assure the integrity, robustness and efficiency of the future E2E solutions. Identify opportunities to increase reusability and maximise cost synergies.

Required skills and experience:

  • 5 years+ experience in Data Centre design
  • 5 years+ experience in design of server, storage and databases
  • Bachelor's Degree in IT or other technical studies
  • Experience in solution/infrastructure architecture
  • Experience in software development and/or software design
  • Knowledge of and/or certification in at least one enterprise architecture methodology (TAM, eTOM, SID, TOGAF, SOA, Web 2.0., etc.)
  • Experience in large scale enterprise architecture, ideally in a telecom. setting
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Cisco ACI/Cisco networks required

Over the next few months our client are implementing & upgrading some key enterprise applications and they are looking for a very capable Windows Systems Administrator to assist the team with project delivery and BAU support.
