Business Analyst – Financial Services / Capital Markets

Location: Gaborone, Botswana (Full-time Onsite)
Contract Duration: Initial 6-month contract with strong possibility of extension

Project Overview

The Botswana Mercantile Exchange (BMX) is establishing its trading platform, clearing and settlement systems, and supporting market data infrastructure. The Business Analyst will play a critical role in defining business requirements, documenting processes, and ensuring that technology solutions align with business and regulatory needs.

Key Responsibilities

Gather and analyse business requirements through stakeholder meetings, interviews, and workshops
Map and optimise business processes using BPMN and workflow diagrams, particularly across commodities trading, clearing, and settlement
Prepare Business Requirements Documents (BRD), Functional Requirements Documents (FRD), and detailed use cases
Validate that proposed system solutions meet business, operational, and regulatory requirements
Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for trading and ancillary systems
Act as liaison between business stakeholders and IT teams to ensure alignment
Support documentation of business processes and contribute to knowledge transfer to internal BMX staff

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management, Information Systems, or related field
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Business Analyst within financial services or capital markets
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Proven experience with BPMN modelling and requirements elicitation techniques
Demonstrated experience producing BRD, FRD, and user stories

Preferred / Advantageous

Experience in commodities trading, exchange operations, or securities markets
Exposure to trading platforms, clearing systems, or regulated financial environments

Reports to the designated Project Manager / BMX Steering Committee
